ISQED Names Synopsys President and Chief Operating Officer Chi-Foon Chan as First Industry Fellow

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 23, 2004--

The International Society for Quality Electronic Design (ISQED.org) today named Dr. Chi-Foon Chan, Synopsys president and chief operating officer (COO), as its first fellow in an awards ceremony at the ISQED04 conference. The prestigious ISQED fellowship program recognizes individuals with extensive technical knowledge in electronic design automation (EDA) and integrated circuit (IC) design who provide ISQED with long-term vision and critical leadership in steering the society and conference's technical direction.

"Dr. Chan has played a crucial role in steering the ISQED symposium since its initiation in 2000," stated Dr. Ali Iranmanesh , chairman of the society. "His expertise and understanding of both design-for-manufacturing and IC quality have been critical in establishing us as a world-class technical forum. His continued support and direction clearly merit this fellowship."

About Chi-Foon Chan

Dr. Chan has extensive experience with ensuring quality in electronic design. Currently, he is Synopsys President and Chief Operating Officer and a member of the board of directors. He joined Synopsys in 1990 and has held a variety of positions since then, including Executive Vice President; Senior Vice President, Design Tools Group; Acting Senior Vice President, Design Reuse Group; Vice President, Engineering and General Manager, DesignWare(R) Operations; and Senior Vice President, Worldwide Field Organization. Previously at NEC Corporation, Dr. Chan was General Manager of the Microprocessor Division, responsible for marketing all NEC chip devices in North America . Prior to NEC, Dr. Chan held a number of senior engineering positions at Intel Corporation. He holds an M.S. and a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from Case Western Reserve University .
